First designated in 1987, the Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology is one of the 15 Centers for Advanced Technology (CAT) the State of New York created to speed technology transfer from universities to the marketplace. There are now 15 CATs in New York State funded by the New York State Office of Science, Technology & Academic Research, also known as NYSTAR. Each CAT receives funding to form partnerships with New York State industrial companies.

The Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology (CACT) was founded at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, which provides it with a strong foundation of education and research in ceramics. The College of Ceramics is a world-renowned ceramics and glass science school, with the only glass science PhD program in the country.

Past its 20th anniversary, the CACT was recently redesignated to provide an outcomes-based approach to research. Economic impact to New York State is now built into every new research program.

Industry Advisors

As a complement, the Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology (CACT) is building a "Team" of Industry Advisors from a broad spectrum of industries experienced in a wide range of industries such as Energy, Healthcare, and Environment.
