services For help with analytical testing of specific samples, we offer services on a fee-per-test basis. Our services include the range of standard ceramic analytical tests and procedures, including MOR, CTE, bulk properties, electrical properties, particle analysis and firing. Ask us for details. Note that there may be an additional charge for sample preparation. Short-term proprietary research Got a problem? Need a quick answer? This option may work for your company. Short-term projects typically address immediate problems and help to “put out fires” so that your own process can move along. One of our faculty members will supervise your research project, and if needed, may also be retained as a consultant. Fee: $6,000-$7,000/month. Non-proprietary research contract In this option, your company specifies a research topic for 12 months or more. The research may be published as a graduate thesis, with a short delay in the publication of results, as appropriate. A faculty principal investigator (PI) supervises the research and serves as your primary contact with the CACT. Fee: $66,000-$70,000/year with MS or first-year PhD; $73,000-$80,000/year with post-doctoral fellow. Proprietary research contract Again for this option, you would specify a research problem we would investigate for a predetermined term. Your company retains all rights to the data we find, along with the technology involved, except for agreed-to publication criteria for the graduate’s thesis, which is usually published only with your company’s written permission. A faculty principal investigator (PI) at the CACT supervises the research and serves as your primary contact. Fee: $85,000-$88,000/year with MS or first-year PhD; $99,000-$102,000/year with a post-doctoral fellow. Graduate fellowship Here your company would submit a general area of research, and a faculty PI would supervise an assigned graduate student and help determine the specific problem to be investigated. The university is assigned all rights to patents, and the research is published in open literature without prior approval from your company, for whom the fellowship would be named. Note that while 12 months is the minimum requirement for this option, we prefer a three-year commitment to ensure that the graduate student completes his or her PhD research. Fee: $58,000-$60,000/year. CACT Industrial Associates program This is an expanded internship program that connects undergraduate ceramic engineering, materials science and glass science students with NYS companies for a summer, or a summer and a semester. With this program, your company can also take advantage of faculty/technical staff consultations, cooperative senior thesis projects, short-term research projects, analytical testing services, access to the Scholes Library, and any trouble-shooting required. Fee: $5,000/year plus student wages. More on the Scholes Library CACT Industrial Affiliates program A full-service industry/university partnership, this option enhances technology transfer from the research lab to the marketplace through faculty/technical staff consultations, analytical testing services and more. As an affiliate, you have preferred access to research projects in addition to your choice of short courses and seminars, access to the Scholes Library along with computer and economic development services, and help with grant applications and business start-ups. Fee: $25,000-$35,000/year. |
